How an Agent can Request to Add or Remove a Spouse in Land Register.

This service enables a landowner to add or remove his/her spouse from the land title. This article acts as a brief guide for agents when applying for the service on the user’s behalf. The service is provided by the National Land Authority (NLA).


The processing time is 7 working Days and the service is free of charge.


Prerequisites:

  • The applicant needs a valid email address or phone number.

  • The applicant needs a valid identification document.



Conditional attachments

  • Death certificate of the deceased spouse

  • Widow certificate

  • Any document proving that you were married to the deceased

  • Marriage record

  • Final Court decision

  • A report of judgment execution or a notarized agreement on property sharing between spouses

  • Copy of passport

  • Marriage certificate


Follow these simple steps to learn how you can help a user Add or Remove a Spouse in Land Register.


  1. Visit the Irembo platform at www.irembo.gov.rw  and log into your agent account.


  1. A small window will pop up. Fill in both your phone number and your password, then click login.


  1. Click the "new application" icon to start a new application.


  1. Under “Land”, click on Title Details Update. 


  1. Click “Apply”.


  1. Select the reason for the request from the drop-down menu.

  1. When you choose Add Land Owner, please note that the user’s marital status should be Married and you can only add their spouse on the land title.

  1. When you choose Remove Land Owner, Please note that the user’s marital status should be Widow / Widower / Divorced and you can only remove the user’s spouse to the land title.


  1. Enter the Applicant & Land Parcel Information including the Identification document type and number and contact information. 

  2. Add Information about the Land Parcel i.e Parcel UPI.


  1. If the user wants to add a land owner to their land parcel. Enter the new land owner’s identification document type and number and their Address.

  1. If the user wants to remove a land owner to their land parcel. Enter the reason for removal and select whether you were married before or after 1999.

  1. Attach the necessary documents then click Next.


  1. Verify that the provided information is accurate, enter the user’s phone number and email address, check the verification box and click “Submit”.

  2. An application number will be generated (B2…) so the user can track the status of their application.


Note:

  • Once the National Land Authority receives and approves the user’s application, they will receive a notification to confirm their request.
