How an Agent can help a user in the Application for Provisional Protection.

This service is intended for individuals or companies with plant varieties. Users must have authorization from the breeder to utilize this service, as they hold the intellectual property rights to the variety and are entitled to compensation. The service applies to various crop types, depending on the breeder or discoverer. Only those with the breeder's authorization are eligible to apply. The service is provided by RICA (Rwanda Inspectorate, Competition and Consumer Protection Authority)


The processing time is 60 Days, and the price Depends on the case.


Prerequisites:

  • Applicants should have their national identification number.

  • If applying on behalf of companies/organizations they should have their TIN number.

  • Applicants should have a valid phone number and email address


Required Attachments:

  • Photos of the plant variety to be protected

  • Certificate from RDB

  • Certificate from RCA

  • DUS Report

Optional attachments:

  • Other supporting document


Follow these simple steps to help a user make an application for Provisional Protection: 

  1. Visit www.irembo.gov.rw and log into your agent account.

  1. A small window will pop up. Fill in both your phone number and your password, then click login.


  1. Click the "new application" icon to start a new application.


  1. Under Trade and Industry, click on Plant Breeder’s right fees. 


  1. Select “Application for Provisional Protection” from the drop-down menu.


  1. Click “Apply”  to start an application.


  1. Enter the Applicant details including the Applicant type and contact details (Phone number and E-mail address).


  1. Click the “Add Variety details” button to add varieties to your application.


  1. Add as many varieties as needed. You can review the varieties using the “eye” icon and delete any application using the “trash” icon.

  1. Add the necessary attachments then click “Next”.

  1. Verify that the user’s information is accurate, enter their phone number and/or email address, check the verification box, and click “Submit”.

  2. A billing number/ID (88….) will be generated for the user to make the payment click pay.

  3. Applicants can choose their preferred mode of payment. For more information about payment modes, click here.

NOTE: 

  • Upon payment, you will receive another SMS and/or email to confirm the payment. Once the Plant Variety Registrar's Office approves and Publishes your application you will receive a notification to apply for your e-certificate via email. If you don't receive an SMS notifying you of your application status within 60 working days after submission, please contact or visit the RICA office.
