How an Agent can apply for a Renewal of a Resident ID Card on the user’s behalf.

The resident ID is a form of local identification issued to foreigners living in Rwanda. This application requires the applicant to be 16 years old and above. He/she must have a passport and Rwandan Permit that is valid for longer than 6 months. You can only renew your ID if it has expired. The service is provided by the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration (DGIE) office. 


The processing time is 5 days, and the price is RWF 5,000.


 Prerequisites: 

  • Applicants must be 16 years old and above.

  • Applicants should have any travel document, such as a valid passport or laissez-passer, etc.

  • Applicants should have valid permits.

  • Applicants should have a passport and Rwandan permit valid for longer than 6 months.

  • The applicant should have an existing resident ID card number.

  • Applicants should have a valid phone number, email address, or both. 


Conditional attachments:

  • Copy of proof of registration

  • Passport photo

  • Signature

  • Parent's marriage certificate or any other proof of marriage

  • Childbirth certificate

  • Death certificate of the deceased parent

  • Copy of a legal guardianship

  • Copy of the guardian's identity card

  • Copy of parents' divorce court judgment

  • Certificate of celibacy for the mother

  • Certificate of Recognition


Optional attachments:

  • Copy of valid refugee card

  • Copy of the refugee card of the mother

  • Copy of the living parent's Identity card

  • Refugee registration certificate


Follow these simple steps to help a user renew their resident ID card: 

  1. Visit the Irembo platform at www.irembo.gov.rw  and log into your agent account.


  1. A small window will pop up. Fill in both your phone number and your password, then click login.

    


  1. Click the "new application" icon to start a new application.


  1. Under “Immigration and Emigration”, click on Resident ID Card.


  1. Select “Renewal of resident ID card” from the drop-down menu.


  1. Click on Apply


  1. Enter the Applicant details. Select if the applicant is above or Below 16. Add their Identification document number, Individual Number from UNHCR, occupation, and date of registration as a refugee.

  2. Add the applicants’ current Residence details.


  1. Enter Travel details as prompted, including Reason for renewal, Purpose of travel, and Destination country.



  1. Upload all the required attachments in the right size and format, then click Next to proceed.

  1. Verify that the user’s information is accurate, enter their phone number and/or email address, check the verification box, and click on Submit.

  2. A billing number/ID (88….) will be generated for the user to make their payment click Pay.

NOTE: After applying and paying successfully via IremboGov, the applicant receives a feedback notification from the DGIE informing them to visit their office for further instructions about their application.
